DCCURRING ON MARCH 5, 1990 Gentlemen:

3 As discussed on March 5, 1990, between Mr. Joel Wiebe, NRC Resident Inspector, CPSES, and Mr. William Guldemond, TU Electric, Manager, Site Licensing, concerning tha reactor trip and the associated events which occurred on March 5, 1990, the following information is provided.

An evaluation is currently being performed to identify the cause(s) of the failure of Inverter IPCI on March 5, 1990.

Prior to further control rod s

movement, the cause of the inverter failure will be corrected or, should a i

root cause not be identified. TV Electric will establish suitable monitoring

. programs to detect inverter degradation.

In addition, reenergizing procedures will be reviewed and revised as necessary

~f to address reenergizing equipment after inverter failure.

These revised procedures will be effective prior to entering Mode 4.
