Letter from B. R. Sylvia to:U.S.N.R.C.. " Response to Generic Letter 89-16,"(NRC-89-0216) dated October 20, 1989 By the referenced letter, you informed the NRC of your intent to work with the Boiling Water Reactors Owners' Group regarding installation of a hardened wetwell vent under 10 CFR 50.59.
Your intention to install a hardened wetwell vent at Fermi-2 as stated in the reference is acceptable. Because we view your stated intentions to be a firm commitment to install the requisite modifications, we will not proceed with the backfit analyses for your facility.
If our understanding is not consistent with your intentions, please provide a detailed explanation of r
'the commitments made in your response supporting the deviations from our understanding within 30 days of receipt of this letter.
TheuseoftheresultsoftheIndividualPlantExaminations(IPE)todevelop supplemented criteria for the vent modification design is acceptable to us, provided that it does not in any way affect the vent modifications under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59.
Your' schedule for completion of the requisite modifications by the end of I
the third refueling outage, approximately November, 1992, is acceptable.
Any changes to the completion schedule must be discussed with the staff prior to their implementation, and the final schedule should not extend beyond January,1993.
