REVIEW OF NEBRASFA PUELIC POWER DISTRICT'S RESFONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 89-10 (TAC NO. 74803)
The NRC staff has receivtd end reviewed the Nebraska Public Power District's Response to Gencric Letter 89-16 dated October 27, 1989. Your intention to install a hardened wetwell vent at Cooper Nuclear Station under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59 is acceptable.
Because he vit:w your stated intentions to be a firm comitment to install the requisite inodifications, we will not proceed with the backfit analyses for your facility.
If our understanding is not consistent with your intentions, please provide a detailed explanation of the comittnents tr.ade in your response supporting the deviations from our understanding.
TheuseoftheresultsoftheIndividualPlantExaminations(IPE)todevelop supplerrented criteria for the vent nodification design is acceptable to us, provided that it does not in any way af fcct the vent tr.odification schedule or your comitment to nate the requisite roodifications under provisions of 10 CFR 50.59.
Your schedule for completion of the requisite raodifications is not cor,sistent with our objectives for this activity. We prefer that all actions related to the requisite vent rnodifications be completed by January 1993. We, therefore, request that you re-evaluate and revise the tredification schedule such that all actions are completed by January 1993.
If after your re-evaluation you continue to propose a cortpletion beyond January 1993, you should provide a response to the staff within 30 days of the date of this letter that provides justification for your proposed corr.pletion date.
