Dear Mr. Mroczka:
SUBJECT:
1989 IGSCC INSPECTION RESULTS 111LLST0llE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 1 (TAC NO. 69029)
The staff has reviewed your submittals dated July 27, 1988 and May 17, 1989, regarding the integranular stress corrosion crackingFebruary 3,(May 4 IGSCC) inspection and repair conducted during the 1989 refueling outage. The enclosed safety evaluation concludes that the IGSCC inspection and repair performed provide assurance that Millstone Unit 1 can be safely operated for the current fuel-cycle.
Please note that as part of the requirements of Generic Letter 88-01, "NRC Position on IGSCC on BWR Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping", dated January 25, 1989, NNEC0 will no longer be required to submit its IGSCC. inspection plan prior to each refueling outage. However, if flaws are found that do not meet ASME Code Section XI, Paragraph IWB-3500, acceptance criteria for continued operation without evaluation, NNECO must submit its evaluation of the flaws prior to plant re-start.
Sincerely,737 Michael L. Boyle, Project Manager Project Directorate I-4 Division of Reactor Projects - I/II Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
