Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station, Docket'Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Follow-up to Proposed Amendment to the Auxiliary Building Filtered Ventilation Exhaust System Technical Specification Gentlemen:

By letter dated October 15, 1987 we submitted the subject amendment request to provide an additional level of flexibility regarding the operation and

~

maintenance of the Auxiliary Building Ventilation system.

Prior to approval of'this request, on May 11, 1989, we submitted another. amendment requesting

a. change to the same Technical Specification to support the addition of a new waste handling facility at McGuire. In our letter of May 1989, we.

requesttJ.the staff to place on hold our earlier submittal of October 1987, and approve the most.recent submittal so the new waste handling facility could be placed'in service at the earliest possible date. In recent discussions with the Project Directorate staff, (November - December 1989) we were informed that the approval and issuance of our May 1989 amendment request is imminent, pending notification to the staff of the new completion date for the waste handling facility (the scheduled completion date was not met and the new completion date has not been determined due to vendor involvement).

As. stated above, we requested the staff temporarily place their review of our October 1987 amendment request on hold so that approval of the request related to the waste handling facility could be obtained first. As previously discussed with project management, we now request the staff to continue review of our October 1987 submittal. Also, please note that during the analysis and preparation of our May 1989 submittal, the assumptions made in our October 1987 submittal were used. Using the new flowrates in the May 1989 submittal, there were slight changes in our original temperature and humidity analysis.

Please reference the Technical

. Discussion-section of'our May 1989 submittal to supplement the October 1987 submittal.

With the exception of the new temperature and humidity values, the remaining conclusions in our October 1987 submittal remain valid.
