Dear Mr. Keppler:
This is to confirm my verbal report made to your NRC Region III Inspec-tor, Mr. E.R. Swanson, at 1635 hours0.0189 days <br />0.454 hours <br />0.0027 weeks <br />6.221175e-4 months <br /> on October 7, 1981, at which time I informed him of the following event identified at Unit 2 of the Dor.ald C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
In preparation for disassembly of a check valve on our normal charging line, it was discovered that the bonnet studs were severely eroded from boric acid due to a leak at the gasketed flange (3 of the 12 studs were cut completely in half). Material for these studs is carbon steel ASTM A-193-B7.
A special report detailing the complete circumstances surrounding uis event will be submitted to your office within 14 days of this letter.
