(.4) Telephone Conversations, CM Vaughan & GP Coryell, 5/11/81 and 5/14/81 (5) Letter, CM Vaughan to RC Lewis, dated 5/18/81 (6) Telephone Conversations, CM Vaughan & GP Coryell, 6/22/81 and 7/10/81 On May 18, 1981 (Reference #5), General Electric Company Wilmington Manufacturing Department requested that further action on Inspection 81-01 be deferred until June 30, 1981, contingent upon a meeting between GE management and the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Inspection & Enforcement.
On June 0, 1981, we contacted Mr. Dudley Thompson, NRC Executive Of fice for Operations Support, and reviewed General Electric concerns with him.
Several recommendations were discussed and the best short-term actions were determined to be interaction between counsels of the NRC and of GE.
Therefore, Mr. Edward Firestone (.GE) and Mr. James Lieberman (NRC Office of Executive Legal Director) have been maintaining a telephone dialogue whien began on 6/25/81.
The issues are apparently close to resolution.
The General Electric Company final response to the referenced inspection report is being prepared and should be forwarded to your office within approximately the next ten days.
