In response to Mr. J. J. Blake's review of our initial response to IE Bulletin 80-08 dated July 3,1980, Carolina Power & Light Company hereby replaces that submittal in its entirety with a revised response as follows :
The Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) does contain the flued head design for penetration connections between the penetration sleeve and process piping as illustrated in Figure NE 1120-1, Winter 1975 Addenda to the 1974 and later editions of the ASME B&PV Code. The applicable ASME Code for the BSEP containment liner penetration construction was 1965 with Summer 1967 Addenda, ASME Section III.
Backing ring joints nre used on all penetrations. Thirteen of the penetrations, ranging in size from 18 inches to l
42 inches, are constructed with A155, CP-1, material and the remaining five i
penetrations, sized from 10 inches to 14 inches, are made with A106-B material.
Radiography was performed on all eighteen root welds and on tvelve i
final welds. The remaining six final welds were nitrasonicically tested for final NDE.
Due to the acceptable radiographic test of the root weld and ultrasonic test of the final weld, we do not plan to radiograph these final six welds.
Documentation is available which indicates if each test on these penetrations passed or failed and if repairs were required; however, it doas not describe the repairs made.
