Dear Mr. Keppler:
On July 24, 1981 Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). An inspection of Limitorque valve motor operators revealed that an underrated terminal block had been installed in several of the operators. Further investigation deterrined that this terminal block, Marathon 300 series, had originally been rated for the specified service conditions of 600 volts and 30 amps, but had been subsequently derated to 300 volts and 30 amps.
PSI is presently reviewing the actual voltage and current levels which will be applied to the Marathon 300 series block and whether it is suitable for this service. This review will also consider current industry standards and practice. Based upon this review, PSI will determine what corrective action, if any, is necessary.
This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined ')y 10 CFR 50.55(e) . A further repore will be filed on or before Decem >er 11, 1981.
