Subject:

Crystal River Unit 3 Docket !!o. 50-302 Operating License flo. DPR-72 flRC Letter, dated July 17, 1981, Requesting Addit 4.onal Informa-tion on Degraded Grid Voltage

Dear Mr. Stolz:

On July 22, 1981, Florida Power Corporation (FPC) received the subject letter requesting additional infomation on the issue of Degraded Grid Voltage.

Your letter requested FPC to provide additional information on the design of our Second Level Undervoltage Protection for Crystal River Unit 3 by August 31, 1981.

This letter is being submitted to request an extension to the 45-day sub-mittal and the installation schedule.

Since receipt of this letter, FPC has been working with Gilbert Associates, Inc. (GAI) on the required 45-day sutmittal.

A review of your questions in detail caused us tc. note a discrepancy in the proposed design of our system.

It will take GAI approximately sixty (60) days to revise the calculations, rework the undervoltage design package, and develop the required response to the NRC questions.

Therefore, our response to the subject letter will be submitted on or before October 30, 1981.

In addition, FPC previously cocmitted to comple'w the modification of the Second Level Undervoltage Protection during the Fall 1981 refueling outage.

Due to the redesign of the Undervoltage Protection System for the above reasons and the fact that all material is not available at this time for installation, this system cannot be installed during the Fall 1981 outage.

Therefore, FPC requests an extension on the ir:tallation schedule.

FPC will provide the actua' Distallation schedule in tt3 aforementioned October 30, 1981, submittal.
