1 VTVYS1 05000271 LER 81-21 CAU3E DESCRIPTION AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS Inspection of the air solenoid valve was inconclusive as to mode of failure.

Normal went with an accumulation of minor amounts of dirt is suspected. This would cause the plunger assembly to stick in an intermediate position when actuated by the valve solenoid. The valve was cleaned, rebuilt, and satisfactorily tested prior to return to service. An evaluation of the surveillance frequency for all safety related solenoid valves is in progress to determine if additional inspection / testing is warrented.
