Dear Mr. Denton:

i In discussions with Dr. Gordon Edison, NRC project manager for the SNUPPS applications, it was learned that additional information was required in order for the Equipment Qualification Branch and the Containment Systems Branch to complete their reviews of the SNUPPS FSAR. This information concerned the operability of containment purge isolation valves. The attached FSAR change provides the re-quested information and will be incorporated in the next revision to the SNUPPS FSAR.

i Very truly yours, 4MtCk Nicholas A. Petrick i RLS/dck/3a13 og D4

wh The lines supplying component cooling water to equipment inside the containment is isolated by CIS-B. A CIS-B is initiated by

\ high containment pressure (Hi-3 ) . It is not diverse, but is initiated only after initiation of a containment spray actuation,

'hich does utilize diversity. The CIS-B is shown on Figure 7.2-1, Sheet 8.

t The containment purge system will be isolated upon initiation of a containment purge isolation signal (CPIS). The diverse parameters sensed to initiate a CPIS are high containment radiation level and high containment purge exhaust radiation level,.or a CIS-A signal. The CPIS logic is shown in Figure 7.3-1," Sheet 2.

All containment isolation valves are provided with control switches on the main control board. Manual actuation switches are provided for initiation of CIS-A, SLIS, and CPIS. In addition to diversity, these systems are redundant and eet safety-grade (Class lE) criteria.

18.2.11.4 Conclusion The design for the containment isolation system satisfies the requirements of Item II .E.4.2 of NUREG-0737.
