Audrain Medical Center License No. 24-15122-01 ATTN:
Mr. Carf Thomas Associate Administrator 620 East Monroe Street Mexico, MO 65265 Centlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr, W. P. Reichhold of this office on July 14, 1981, of activities authorized by NRC Byproduct Material License No. 24-15122-01 and to the telephone conversation concerning our findings with you on July 21, 1981.
The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license. The inspec-tion consisted of a selective-examination of procedures and representative records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.
During a review of the personnel monitoring reports, it was notef that a radiologist had received whole body exposures of 1.470 rem for the period from February 20, 1980 to March 19,1980, and 1.890 rem for the period from j
June 20, 1980 to July 19, 1980. According to statements of licensee repre-sentatives, it cppears the overexposures occurred from x-ray and not from improper use of licensed material. Although we have not identified these exposures as items of noncompliance, you should be aware that it is the purpose of the regulations in 10 CFR 20 to control the possession, use, and transfer of licensed material in such a manner that the total dose to an individual (including exposures to licensed and unlicensed radio-active material and to other unlicensed sources of radiation) does not exceed the standards of radiation protection prescribed in 10 CFR 20.
In your reply to this letter, please describe the corrective action you have taken to ensure that the exposure limits specified in 10 CFR 20.101 will not be exceeded in the future.
