'J (b) USNRC Letter to YAEC dated July 22, 1981

Subject:

Clarification of the Core XV Safety Evaluation

Dear Sir:

Our review of the information contained in Reference (b) indicates that clarification of several items in the Staff's Safety Evaluation are required This letter confirms a telephone conversation on July 24, 1981 in which these items were discussed and agreement reached on their disposition. These items are discussed below.

I 1.

Technical Specifications overleaf pages 3/4 2-8, 3/4 3-10, B 3/4 7-1 should not indicate a change due to Amendment 69.

We will correct this item for our controlled distribution.

2.

On page 62, the non-return valve (NRV) block switches are located on the NRV panel located in the main control room. Additionally, the two sets of NRV position indicstion lights in the main control room are the MCB graphic display and the NRV panel.

3.

On page 65, the pressui '.zer low pressure reactor trip will not reaain functional. The trip function has been deleted, however, the channel circuitry remains functional to provide indication and alarm for control room monitoring as well as provide pressurizer heater and spray control.

4.

In reference to our commitment on pages 63 and 65 to replace dCA relays with qualified relays in the NRV trip circuitry and MCS pressure reactor trip circuitry, it should be noted that these relays will be replaced at the first extended outage following shipment. We expect that three to four days will be necessary to complete the replac ement and perform the necessary surveillances. We understand this item will be clarified in your letter to the Office of Inspection and Enforcement.
