A t t. u. request of the U.S. Nuclear Pegula tory Comisr ien, a second radia tion survey was performed aboard the N/S SAVANNAH utilizing e nicroR survey instrument.
This survey was perforced by Emory Willian.s, Radiation Safety Of ficer representing the f>.aritime Administration ar.d was conducted en Wednesd3y June 10, 1931.
l Instrumentation used for the survey consisted of an Eberline PFM-5N Couht Rate Meter with an Eberline SPA-3 Scdium Iodide Scintillation Detector Readings were obtained in counts per minute and were converted into micreR/hr f or reportirig pur-poses.
The radiation survey conducted on June 10, 1381 was done to confirm a similar survey conducted on flarch 23, 1981. The June survey wc,rore extensive since all of the staterocus and compartments were opened and could be entered for radiation men-itoring.
In all, over 130 staterooms, compartments, and arras were monitored durinq the June survey, whereas less than~S0 micro" readings could t'e made during " arch.
I Defining the background level for the N/S Sf. VAN"AH was determined by taking rad-iation readings topside of the vessel at the for thest points fron the Reactor Com-partment.
This method had to be used since the background readings on the concrete dock and on the land area near the vessel where higher '.han the topside readings en the vessel.
The results rf the survey are shown an the following peges.
