FINAL REPudT CONTAINMF.NT GAS ANALYSIS SYSTEM OVERPRESSURIZATION July 2, 1981 DESCRI.' TION OF THE INCIDENT By letter dated April 3,1980 Comsip, Inc. notified the NRC paoinn V office of a concern pursuant to 10CFR21.
The concern relates to
...a design of the containment gas analysis system such that the system could be rendered inoperable under certain conditions.
Please refer to the Comsip letter for a detailed description.
CORRECTIVE ACTION Comsip has provided a modification kit as discussed in their April 3, 1980 letter to the NRC Region V office to alleviate the defect. This kit is comprised of a pump recirculation line, with a check valve, between the pump discharge and suction lines. These kits have been installed in the containment gas analysis systems at the STP site.
SAFETY ANALYSIS This deficiency could have impaired the. ability to perform hydrogen monitoring, which is required for post-accident operation. An additional concern was breaching the integrity of the containment gas analysis system.
The corrective action taken eliminates these concerns.
Additional detail concerning the safety evaluation is provided in Comsip's April 3,1980 letter to the NRC Region V office.
