Dear Sir:
Construction of McGuire Nuclear Station - Unit 2 (Construction Permit CPPR-84) has now reached the stage where receipt and storage of the fuel for the initial core is necessary. Shipment of this fuel is currently scheduled to begin in mid August of 1981 and finish in mid December of 1981. Consequently, Duke needs a special nuclear material license which authorizes activities for McGuire -
Unit 2 which were previously approved in Special Nuclear Material License No. 1773 (Docket No. 70-2623) for McGuire Nuclear Station - Unit 1.
Units 1 and 2 cf McGuire Nuclear Station are virtually identical facilities. The attached pages provide Duke's application for such a license. This application is made pursuant to 10 CFR Part 70.
