SUBJECT:
STAFF CONCURRENCE ON INSTALLATION OF TWELVE BACXUP DEWATERING WELLS-We are in receipt of your June 8,1981 letter forwarding Revision 9 to
'Bechtel Specification 7220-C-88 with associated quality assurance and quality-control documents for the installation of twenty backup interceptor
. dewatering wells. Our review reveals that these documents appropriately reflect NRC comments recorded by Enclosure 1, except that certain minor changes identified by Enclosure 2 arh still to be incorporated. On the basis of these documents and other previous dewatering information in your letters of March 23, April 3 and 24 and May 28, 1981, and on the basis of your state-ment of intent noted by Enclosures 2 and 3, the Staff has raasonable assurance that installation of the bac!:up interceptor wells shown on Figure 8 from your letter of April 24, 1981 will be performed in an acceptable anner. However,'
as discussed in Enclosure 4, our concurrence with respect to eight wells (F-1 througn F-7 and G-9) is deferred pending review of four additional samples to be taken in their recently revised location.
Accordingly, the Staff has no technical objection should Consumers elect to proceed with installation of the twelve wells designated H-1 through H-4 and G-1 through G-8.
