Dear Mr. Ferguson:

This letter confirms a telephone conference held on February 13, 1981 with your Messrs. D. Wood and G. Smith and Leon Engle, project manager for the North Anna Power Station, Units 1 & 2 (NA-1 & ?). In the above noted telecon you were notified that our February 2, 1981 request for information regarding the structural integrity of pump nozzles for the Low Head Safety Injection (LHSI) system for NA-2 had been resolved and a response by you to this matter was no longer required. A telephone conference was held on February 12, 1981 with representatives of the NRC staff, VEPC0 and Stone & Webster (S&W) to discuss our February 2, 1981 request for verification of the NA-2 LHSI pump nozzle structural. intergrity. Based on additional information provided by S&W concerning the modeling of the LHSI pump and further re-evaluation on our part, we conclude that the pump nozzles in question will most likely not experience loads which exceed the pump-manufacturers worst case loads. We, therefore, do not require that the pump manufacturer provide any further verification of structural integrity. This issue is therefore resolved. Sincerely, ) leiTIL bc x Robert A.
