Subject:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. 1 and 2 IE Bulletin No. 80-11

Dear Mr. Grier:

An extensive survey program was carried out at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in conpliance with IE Bulletin 80-11.

An interim report was sent to you on July 3, 1980, at which time the survey program was still in progress.

The survey has since been completed. The attachments have been updated and are enclosed with this report to give you the current statis.

Attachment A shows all of the masonry walls which have been identified in the Auxiliary Building. To date, no other masonry walls have been found in the remaining Category I structures.

Surveys of the containment structures and other outage-related areas will be conducted during the next refueling outages.

These outages are scheduled for October and January.

Attachment B is the response to Items 1, 2A, and 3 of the bulletin. This accounts for all of the alls identified in Attachment A.

In the process of this surwy, three stacked block shield wal = (constructed without mortar or reinforcement) were identified as having a possible impact on safety related systems.

These are shown as wall A35 on page A.2, wall N on page A.4, and wall L on page A.5.

Two of these walls were noted in the July 2, 1980 letter.

Under 10 CFR Part 21 they have been classified as reportable.

The walls in question have been removed.

Mr. Boyce H. Grier September 23, 1980 Meetings of Owners and Engineering firms were held on August 4 and 5, 1980 in Baltimore and on August 27 and 28, 1980 in Chicago. Criteria are being developed as a result of dese meetings and will be transmitted to you with our final report. Because of the number of walls involved, the necessity for developing additonal criteria and the commitment of resources to the TMI and Fire Protection Programs, we cannot assure that the evaluation will be complete in November. Therefore, we request an extension of approximately two months to January 9, 1981.

Very truly yours,
