VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT NO.1. -(TAC NO. 74578)

The staff has reviewed your submittal of August 10, 1989, as supplemented by ~

your Novenber 9,1989, December 7 and Decenber 21, 1989, and January 19, 1990 submittals.

These submittals provided additional information with respect to the July 11, 1989 mactor trip at the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit No.1, which resulted in an unexpected large voltage disturbanm on the i

grid that resulted in a. loss of several other electrical generating stations within the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company system.

As a result of this review, the staff is satisfied that both the long-term and short. term corrective 1

actions you have taken and will take to minimize the probability of similar future event; are acceptable.

Therefore, this item is considered closed.
