i MONTHLY PERFORMANCE REPORT - JANUARY 1990 At the beginning of the report period, oyster Creek was operating at a gross generator load of approximately 650 MWo.

On January 10, while removing a reactor recirculation pump from service to replace motor generator set brushes, the recirculation loop discharge valve failed to shut and was declared inoperable. In accordance with Technical Specifications, pit.nt chutdown commenced.

The discharge valve was subsequently cycled and returned to service.

Plant shutdown was terminated on January 11 and plant load was  ;

increased to approximately 644 MWe. '

on January 23, plant load was reduced to approximately 70t power to remove a reactor feedwater string from service to facilitate repairs ,

to a feedwater pump drain line nipple leak. Following completion of repairs, power ascension commenced on January 29. The power increase was halted with plant load at 561 MWe due to increasing seal temperatures on a reactor recirculation pump and increasing drywell unidentified leak rate. The reactor recirculation pump was removed from service on January 31 and plant load was increased. Plant load  ;

of 635 MWe was achieved on February 1, with four recirculation loops in service.

scheduled date for restart following refueling May 19, 1991

! Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a Technical specification change or other license amendment?

Yes Scheduled date(s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information July 15, 1990 Important licensing considerations associated with refueling, e.g., new or different fuel design or supplier, unreviewed design or performance analysis-methods, significant changes in fuel design, new operating procedures:

1. General Electric Fuel Assemblies - fuel design 3 and performar.ce analysis methods have been approved by the NkC.
2. Exxon Fuel Assemblies - no major changes have been made nor are there any anticipated.

The number of fuel assemblies (a) in the cors = 560 (b) in the opent fuel storage pool = 1595 .

(c) in dry storage = 37 ,

The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity and the size of any ,

t increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned, in number of fuel assemblies:

Present licensed capacity: 2600 p The projected date of the last refueling that can be discharged to the spent ,

fuel pool assuming the present licensed capacity:

1. .

Reracking of the fuel pool is in progress. Nine (9) out of ten (10) racks have been installed to date. When reracking is completed, discharge capacity to the spent fuel pool will be available until 1994 refueling outage.
