GENERIC LETTER 89-16 " INSTALLATION'0F A HARDENED WETWELL VENT" (TAC 74868)
By letter dated October 27, 1989, you responded to Generic Letter 89-16,
" Installation of a Hardened Wetwell Vent," for the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant.
In your response you indicated that your current analysis, together with the unique circumstances and features of the FitzPatrick plant, do not justify installation of a hardened wetwell vent and that the issue should be resolved as part of the_ Individual Plant Evaluation /
Probabilistic Risk Assessment evaluation which i_s currently in progress..
i Therefore, you not intend to install the hardened vents on a voluntary basis.
As noted in Generic Letter 89-16, the NRC staff will complete a plant-specific analysis for the FitzPatrick plant.
If the results of this aralysis supports the conclusion that modifications meet the requirements of the NRC backfit I
rule, a copy of our analysis will be sent to you to provide ancther opportunity for you to make the requisite modifications under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59.
