. Operating License DPR-43 Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant

Security Modification Schedule Extension i

Reference 1) Letter from Mr. ' C. R. Steinhardt (WPSC) to Document Control Desk (NRC) Dated October 28, 1988

2) Letter from Mr. C. R. Steinhardt (WPSC) to Document Control Desk (NRC) Dated December 28, 1988-In reference 1 -WPSC responded to' Inspection Report 88-017 by committing to various short term and long term corrective actions on the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant's (KNPP) closed circuit television (CCTV) system. The long term corrective actions included installing new CCTV hardware with installation-expected to start in May, 1989 and with project completion anticipated in the Fall'of 1989.

In reference'2, WPSC submitted a complete re-write of the KNPP Security Manual which identified a completion date of December 31, 1989 for the CCTV system upgrade. The attachments to this letter are submitted to summarize:

the increased scope of the project (including a brief description of each major change), the current project status and a proposed schedule for final project u

completion.

In summary, WPSC had preliminarily projected a completion date for this project in late 1989. Due to several major project scope increases (which are intended to enhance the overall security system effectiveness), the imp Mmentation sche-dule for the proposed modifications is being extended until Octote 1090. This letter summarizes the general reasons for this extension, provides an update on the current status of our commitment, and proposes a schedule for final project Enclosure Co* N SECURITY 6
