The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance in the use of j

Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit No.1 ( ANO-1), as the next plant in the Severe Accident Sequence Analysis (SASA) program.

This effort as it applies to ANO-1 wouiu be perforned bv Sandia National Laboratories (Stil) who nave provided in Enclosure 1 a short sunnary of the program.

The SAdA progran was initiated in January 1980 and its effort has con-centrated on the Zion and Browns Ferry plants as representative PWRs and BilRs, respectively. We have chosen AU0-1 as the next plant for study l

because:

1.

It is currently an operating PWR of ty;?ical power level.

2.

It typifies a reasonable number of curren' and planned NSSS and con-tainment types.

3.

Plant data is available and the people on the team which would be per-l faming the study would be familiar with the plant through the current

Plant data is available and the reople on the team which would be per-foming the study would be familiar with the plant through the current IREP program and your representative on the IREP program.

The main effort, which would involve Arkansas Power and Light Company persennel, would be the assistance needed to identify and collect data which would augment the data already collected for the IREP program. The needed data would involve as-built construction infomation and system layouts for inputs into themal-hydraulic codes and colitainment structural analysis.

We believe the required data could be identified and colduring a one to two lected by a team from SNL with the help of one knowledgeable AP&L person week visit at the plant. Also, it would be most helpful to have access to your representative on the IREP program.
