Subject : Interim Report - Reportable 10CFR50.55(e) Item - Specified Weld Lengths
Dear Sir:
On May 26, 1981, we reported as a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item that an investigation has shown that on some, of the support design drawings which do not give the specific length of weld, the length is implied by the use of interfacing dimensions and these have been used by the+ erection contractor.
In addition, in some cases where the weld length was not indicated, the erection contractor formally requested this information from UE&C engineering and a change was issued by UESC specifying the weld length. No cases are yet known where a support has been installed with inadequate weld length.
The following actions have either been taken or planned to rectify this deficiency:
All new support details will identify the minimum length of welds.

Tne minimum lengths of welds for all the supports located ir. the Containment dome have been identified as being of sufficient length.
For all new supports being installed, the contractor will initiate a c.
Raquest for Information when the length of weld or any other key dimension is a.ot defined on the drawing. UE&C will define any missing information in response to the RFI's.

A review of drawings of all supports which have been installed will be performed to define the minimum lengths of the welds where required. The review will be complete July 31, 1981.
Installed supports will be inspected to assure that minimus lengths of e.
welds are provided.
