Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Notice of Violation (State of Nevada Inspection)

Your letter of May 20, 1981 requires a response to the Notice of Violation by June 19, 1981. Based on the reasons described below, we are requesting, by this letter, a twenty (20) day extension period to submit our response by July 9, 1981.

Although the Notice of Violation was received on May 28, 1981, Inspection R: port 50-219/80-37 (State of Nevada Report dated December 30, 1980) dated June 2, 1981 was not received until June 9, 1981. The inspection report provides the facts, analysis, and findings we deem necessary to adequately rcspond to the violations.

The severity of the violations necessitates that upper corporate management bo involved in the formulation, review and approval of the responses. Their emphasis on the corrective actions aspect and the coordination of the subsequent cpproval cycle will taquire additional time.

In addition to the above, we have inquired if IE Inspection 81-04, conducted by R. Nimitz on March 6,1981, would be issued in the near future. This inspection encompassed radwaste packaging and shipping at Oyster Creek. The ecsults of this inspection may be beneficial in responding to the Nevada violation.
