Licensee personnel.ere performing work on the reverse flow valves on the north end of the north half of the main condenser, when the northeast valte closed. This sudden closure resulted in dama;e to the reinforced rubber expansion joint and flooding of the lowcr level of the turbine building to a depth of about 14.5 feet.
The licensee deternined that no radioactivity was released during removal of the untreated water (approximately 600,000 gallons) from this unrestricted area.
The flooding resulted in the loss of the 1 and the 1/2 diesel generator cooling water pumps and various other safety related equipment.
l The reactor had been shut down for scheduled maintenance for approximately nine days prior to this incident, The licensee will itsue a report to the Directorate of Licensing within i
