Oear Mr. Grier:

The purpose of this letter ir to provide a response to the concerns expressed in the above referenced NIC inspection reports relative to the ASME Section XI ultrasonic examination of the recirculation system riser to sweepolet double weld joint.

Several NPC positions were established (Reference 1, Itcm 4); since then, all positions have been satisfactorily ackncwledged to date except itcm 4(c) which e'onla with the subject of the design of the enlibration block to be used for the examination. It is PP&L's intent to amply with the NBC position expressed and reiterated in the referenced ins;crtion reports; that is, a e,libration standard containing representative

  • elds will be fabricated for use in the ultraconic examination of this weln configuration. Our preservice examination contractor, Nuclear Energy Services (NES), has been instructed to proceed with the design of this standard. The procedure and the calibration block drawings will both be available for inspector review on site as in the past.
