LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Supplemental Response to IE Bulletin 80-25 (Item 3)
" Operating Problems with Target Rock Safety-Relief Valves at BWR's" NRC Docket Nos. 50-373/374 References (a):
J. G. Keppler letter to C. Reed dated December 19, 1980.
(b):
T. J. Rausch letter to J. G. Keppler dated March 19, 1980.
Dear Mr. Keppler:
Reference (b) provided the Commonwealth Edison Company response to the subject bulletin, in which we indicated that the review of bulletin item 3 was still in progress for LaSalle County Station.
The following completes our response f or LaSalle County Station.
Discussions with General Electric Company have resulted in the determination that this bulle',in is not applicable to LaSalle since the station is equipped with Crosby relief valves, not Target Rock valves.
In addition, our review of tne air supply systems to these valves indicates that overpressurization is protected against by relief valves set below the operating capability of the solenoid valves.
The relief valves are located on the nitrogen supply bank and on the air receiver tank.
Overpressurization would therefore require a double equipment failure (pressure control and relief valves) and no modifications are deemed necessary.
The station currently has procedures to guide the operator in response to an occurrence of low supply pressure.
