Dear Mr. Bouchey:
SUBJECT:
DIESEL ENGINE COMBUSTION AIR INTAKE, WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECTS 1 AND 4
REFERENCE:
1.
Letter from G. D. Bouchey (WPPSS) to B. J. Youngblood (NRC) dated February 13, 1981.
The referenced memo solicited NRC agreement with use of a common combustion air intake structure for each set of emergency diecel generators associ.ted with the WPPSS Nuclear Projects 1 and 4.
The Supply System made a deter-mination that this arrangement will meet the intent of Item 6, Sectior II, Part 9.5.8 of the Standard Review Plan (SRP) and requested NRC agreement with this conclusion.
The staff has reviewed the subject combustion air supply arrangement and agrees that the design of the diesel generator combustion air supply arrangement pro-vided meets the applicable acceptance criteria in Section II of SRP 9.5.8.
The NRC notes that formal agreement with this item (as well as other aspects of the plant design) is not required at this point in time and considers the subject request to be an avoidable expenditure of staff manpower. The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation has placed first priority on review of near term operating license and construction permit applications and has appropriated manpower accordingly. Future requests for special reviews will be evaluated relative to their impact on near term operating licenses and will~ be honored only when a substantial need can be demonstrated by WPPSS.
Sincerely, bdeo Robert L. Tedesco, Assistant Director for Licensing Division of Licensing cc: See next page 8106080C7N k
