Gentlemen:

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted b/ Mr. I. T. Yin of

this office on March 30-31, and April 1-2, 1981, of activities at La Salle

County Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC Construction Permits No.

CPPR-99 and No. CPPR-100 and to the discussion of our findings with

Mr. L. J. Burke and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas, examined during

the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified during

the course of this inspection.

Based on the results of this inspection which included a review and evalua-

tion of your corrective actions in response to our Immediate Action Letter

dated August 14, 1980, anc >ur subsequent letter dated March 19, 1981, we

concluded that Commonwealth Edison Company could resume small bore piping

design and installation work at La Salle County Station, Unit I and Unit 2.

In addition, the special records you were maintaining to document the Unit

2 piping and supports that were worked on, as delineated in our March 19,

'

1981, letter, are no longer required. We consider this issue resolved.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part

2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and the

enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document

Room, except as follows.

If this report contains information that you
