We'have reviewed IE Bulletin 81-01, " Surveillance of Mechanical Snubbers" which identified several instances of failures of mechanical snubbers supplied by International Nuclear Safeguards Corporation (INC).

No' mechanical snubbers--

supplied by INC are used or are planned for use at Beaver Valley Unit 1.

Six (6) mechanical snubbers are installed at Beaver Valley Unit I with others scheduled for installation. All are manufactured by Pacific Scientific Company.

Of the six mechanical' snubbers in use, three were installed in August, 1979 and three in October, 1980.

In accordance with Item 3 of the Bulletin, all mechanical snubbers installed on safety related systems will be inspected prior to completion of our next refueling outage.

This inspection will in-clude both the visual examination and the manual (freedom of movement) test.

We will submit the results of the inspections performed within 60 days after the completion of the inspection.
