Response
The required inspection of Peach Bottom Unit 3 Jet pumps was performed utilizing underwater TV equipment.
-The j et pump hold down, beam inspection was per formed following General Electric procedure TP-508.0654, Rev.
C.
This procedure, which is applicable to BWR 4 plants, was used in place of the procedure reference in Item 2 above which is applicable to earlier plants.
The inspection data was obtained by General Electric Company personnel qualified to ANSI, Level II standards.
The results were reviewed and accepted by the Philadelphia Electric Com p a n y,
Maintenance Department's ISY Senior Engir2er.
Of the 20 jet pumps only j et pump number 6 showed indications under ultrasonic (UT) examination although no reportable indications were found by visual examination.
An interpretation of the UT results shows that the indications are in the. area of 5
the hold down bolts.
It is planned to remove this beam for I
further evaluation during the current refuel / maintenance outage.
A similar inspection program performed on Unit 2 during April 1980, reported to you by letter dated May 2, 1980, found no rej ectable indications.
The j et pump operability surveillance initiated in response to paragraph B.2 of IE Bulletin 80-07 shall continue.
L h
Very truly yours,
