UNPLANNED RADI0 ACTIVE LIQUID RELEASE (WITHIN LIMITS)

" feed and oleed" of tne Drywell Chiiled Water (DCw) System resuitea in discharge of water contaminated with Na-25, I-133, and Cr-Si(to three times the Maximum Permissible Concentration)to the Turbine Building Floor Orains.

About 500 galions containing 150 microcuries of act1vity were released.

These floor drains empty into the ::irculating water disenarge basin, wnere dilution oy one million gpm circulating water flow (estimated dilution factor of two million) occurs prior to release to the Susquehanna River, oropping tne concentration well below release liraits.

Tne " feed and bleed" operation was being conoucted cecause of slight contamination of the normally-nonradioactive DCW system.

Licensee investigation and hRC resident inspector followup are continuing.

Media interest is possible.

The Comonwealth of Pennsylvania and EFA: Region III have been informed. A press release is being considered by the licensee.

The NRC does not plan a press release; media inquiries will be answered.

The NRC was informed by ENS call at 12:15 p.m., Maren 31, 1981.

tRC Region I received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the resident inspector at 12:20 p.m. March 31, 1981.
