Dear :
- r. Ea=nerer:
Enclosed is a copy of correspondence which I have received from Mr. Oliver T. Burnham of Berlin Heights, Chio.
- think you will find it self-explanatory.
I would appreciate your reviewing this correspondence and, if possible, providing me with a report of your findings.
In this age of energy shortages, it seems to =e that all deliberate speed should be utilized to ensure that nuclear power reactors become fully operational as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your kind and prompt attentien to this matter, and with kindest regards and best wishes, Sincerelv,

Dear Senator Thurnand:
As a substantial stockhcider in South Ca ro-lina Electric & Gas Company, I am concerned v.ith the
)
continuing delay being encountered by that utility in conpleting the licensing procedure for its Sunner nuclear generating plant, near Farr, S.
C.
Origin-ally, it w9s anticipated that this facility would be in cornercial operation by year end 1980.
As of that i
date construction.:As 975 conplete.
In a cuarterly report to shareholders, just received, it is stated that, due to the tardy pace of l'uclear F.egulatory Cennission licensing procedure,
full cperation is not contenplated until J ine,1932.
This represe, nts an intolerable delay, with resultant financini penalties to the company and withholding of rate benefits to the 340,000 customers.
In view of your current leadership status in the Senate, I an hoping that you can initiate some action which will result in acceleration of the NhC l' censing schedule - to the benefit of all concerned -
ind udio; the South Carolina ?ublic Service Authority which owns a one-third interest in t' e plant.
q
- ilhile I assume that the company has been in contact with you concerning this frustrating situation, if you need further infor=aticn on which to base inter-cession, either Arthur Willin=s, chairman, or Virgil Su=ner, president, would be nore than pleased to re-ceive and respond to your indication of concern.
~
Verv truly yours,
