Subj: Interim Report - Potential 50.55(e)

%, ' t Loose Sway Strut Bushings o)

Dear Mr. Seidle:

This letter is written to update the status of loose sway strut bushings as reported in the References.

Loose and displaced bushings were identified in 12 sway struts furnished by Bergen-Patterson and ITT Grinnel to the Wolf Creek Site.

Although none of the bushings have as yet become disengaged from the strut assemblies, the potential exists for such disengagement to occur with the possible result that certain piping assemblies will be overstressed. On this basis, this matter is being treated as a potential Significant Deficiency under 10CFR 50.55(e) definition. We are advised that recently completed inspections at the Callaway Site have identified similar difficulties with eleven (11)

Bergen-Patterson furnished sway struts at that site.

These inspection findings were also reported to the NE' by Union Electric as reportable Significant Deficiency under 10CFR 50.55 (3) criteria.

Further investigations are being undertaken in conjunction with Union Electric to determine the cause of these difficulties and to develop a meaningful plan of corrective action.

Inasmuch as these problems are common 810818070'/
