.e approximately 11:30 a.m. on October 3,1980, radio station WK:'N (Zion, Illin6fs) t Atreceived a telephone call from a person, believed to be a young black male, who said, "If Zion operations does not shut down the Horizon and Pierce High School campuses will be bcmbed. The bombs are at the schools and will go off at 2:30 p.m. if Zion does not shut down."

The radio station notified the Zion Police Department of the bomb threat.

The Zion Police Department in turn notified the site representatives.

The licensee alerted their administrative staff and increased security at the Nor'th gate of the Zion site.

Local police units responded to both schools.

The licensee notified the NRC resident inspectors at Zion who in turn notified Region III (Chicago).

Region III notified the Chicago Office of the FBI and the State of Illinois.

HO, IE (DSI) was notified and agreed to notify the IAT.

l No press release is planned by the licensee or RIII.

This Preliminary Notification is issued for information only and no further action by 1

IE is anticipated.

P Region III received notification of this event by telephone from the NRC Resident Inspectors at 11:50 a.m. CDT on October 3, 1980.
