PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--PNS-III 03 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically l

Subject:

-BOMB THREAT 1

1 At approximately 1:40 p.m.

(CST) on February 4, 1981, the Zion Post Of fice received a telephonic bomb threat from a black male caller who stated: "There is a bomb set at I

the plant and to evacuate the city by 6:00 p.m." (CST). The Zion Post Office notified the Zion Fire Department who in turn notified the Zion Station Security Officer at approximately 2:00 p.m.

(CST). The licensee notified the Zion Police Departmeat.

The licensee and the police considered this to be a hoax. The licensee has implemented their bomb search procedure. There is no plan to evacuate the site at this time.

The Zion Police Department currently has an outstanding varrant out on an individual who they believe may have made the phone call. This individual is suspected of calling in several false fire alarm threats.

I RIII has notified the local FBI office. No press release is planned by the licensee or RIII. The State of Illinois has been notified.

RIII received notification of this event by telephone from the NRC Duty Officer at approximately 3:05 p.m. (CST) on February 4, 1981. This information is current as of.
