The plant began the month at 40% power due to favorable hydroelectric conditions and increased power to 100% on January 5, 1981; it re=ained at or near full power until January 30 when the plant was shutdown to permit steam generator tube plugging.

The steam generator tube leak rate was approximately 50 gallons per day at the start of the month and increased to about 300 gallons per day near the end of the month.

Steam generator D is suspected of contributing most of the total with the balance from steam generator A.

The reactor coolant system gross ga=ma activity remained at about 3.4 uCi/ml.

MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE:

Work continued on improvement modifications to the Plant Security and Fire Protection Systems.

Work continued on modifications to the Control and Auxiliary Building walls to improve seismic integrity.

Work continued on TMI-related modification work.

Work on the foundation for the Technical Support Center was completed.

MISCELLANEOUS MAINTENANCE:

Work was completed on the startup boiler maintenance.

Work was completed on the seal replacement to the north service water booster pump.

Work was completed in the spent fuel bridge crane wheel replacement of machined wheels for cast wheels.

I LICENSE CHANGES:

Amendment 55: Additional reporting for modifications to Control Building.

Amendment 56: TMI-Lessons-Learned changes--incorporates additions to the license that affect iodine monitoring,outside containment radioactive fluid system integrity, post-accident instrumentation, relief / safety valves, auxiliary feedwater system pressurizer heaters, shift manning, and company organization.

MISCELLANEOUS:

A bomb threat was received on January 19, 1981. A search was made of the plant and no bomb was discovered.
