Modifications to the Auxiliary Feedwater System

Dear Sir:

In Refe*ence (b) you requested that we evaluate two-specific areas where upgrades coulo be made to increase the seismic capability of the auxiliary feedwater system. This letter is to inform you that our evaluation is complete and we will make the following modifications:

1)

The vertical gaps between-the nut and bolt sleeve attached to tanks TK-1 and TK-39 will be eliminated, and 2)

Two lateral restraints will be added to the horizontal straight run of 2 inch emergency feedwatur pipe located in the turbine building

-lower level.

Engineering design of these modifications is currently in progress and installation of the fixes is expected to be completed by mid March 1981.

Further evaluation of this and other-systems essential to decay heat Some

, removal will be undertaken as part of our seismic re-evaluation program.

results of our preliminary seismic analysis on essential piping systems were presented at our December 17, 1980 meeting and are documented in Reference (c).

If you have any questions, or desire additional information, please contact us.
