Dear Mr. Keppler:
On May 9, 1980, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55 (e) . This item, which pertains to the operation of centrifugal charging pumps during a high energy line rupture, was described in an interim report to your office on June 2, 1980.
Westinghouse analyzed this problem and recommended that some plant modi-fication be made. As planned, Westinghouse undertook an evaluation of potential modifications in order to determine the best alternative. To date, Westinghouse has not yet completed this evaluation or selected a plant modification. PSI will advise your office of what action will be taken in a final report on or before August 3, 1981.
