Industrial Mechanics, Inc. - Nuts and Bolts
Dear Mr. Seidle :
On June 6, 1980, Messrs.
E.W.
Creel and M.E. Clark reported to Messrs.
W. Crossman and W.
Hubecek of NRC Region IV that some 2-3/4" anchor bolts and nuts supplied to the Wolf Creek Site by Industrial Mechanics, Inc. have minimum and maximum pitch diameters which do not conform to the tolerance limitations specified in ASA/ ANSI Bl.1-1960.
Since June 27 the thread size of all bolts and nuts shipped to Wolf Creek has been checked at the factory to verify that the thread size is within tolerance.
Also, bolts in stock at Wolf Creek which will be needed during the next month have been checked.
Bolts / nuts found to be out of tolerance have been segregated. The Industrial Mechanics, Inc. bolts / nuts in stock which have not been checked have been placed on hold.
Since June an investigation has been carried out to determine the extent of the problem.
It has been found that sizes other than 2-3/4" do not meet the tolerance valuns of the ASA/ ANSI Bl.1 specification.
The gathering of data as requested by the A/E (Bechtel) is nearly complete and analysis has started.
Analysis of several specific applications have been completed and in these cases the bolts / nuts were found to be acceptable for use.
