OF NOVEMBTR 17, 1980 MEETING REGARDI?!G REVIEW OF OPERATING LICENSE APPLICATION Mr. H. R. Denton, Director NRR, Mr. J. P. O'Reilly, IE Of rector Region II, Mr. T. Donat,'McGuire Senior IE Resident Inspector, Ms. Mary Jane Graham, IE Resident Inspector and !V. R. A. Birkel, Licensing Project Manager for the McGuira Nuclear Station, met with the apolicant's coroorate and station management at the McGuire Nuclear Station on November 17, 1980. The purpose of the meeting was to review the Duke Power Corroany's readiness for startup of McGuir? Unit 1 and tour the facility. A list of orinciple attendees is attached as Enclosure No.1. An agenda for the meeting is attached as Enclosure No. 2.

A breakfast meeting to discuss the prospective licensing of the McGuire station was held between the MRC representatives and the local officials prior to meeting with the applicant. Local officials from Mecklenburg, Gaston and Lincoln counties were represented.

Formal presentations were made by the applicant on each agenda topic.

In addition areas of specific interest to the staff were discussed.

It was noted that the readiness for Unit 1 to load fuel has been delayed until late-January /

early February,1981 due to reanalysis of piping supports and anchors. Sub-sequent to a tour of Unit 1, a press conference was held at the station.

Mr. Denton expressed satisfaction with the safety measures being taken at the McGuire station and anticipated early completion of the staff review.
