1 PERRY UNITS 1 AND 2 p

The Nuclear Regulatory Connission staff is currently involved in research into methods to predict the response of the containment to potential hydrogen burning and/or explosion in the event of a severe accident. This staff effort is in support of the TMI Action Plan Task II.B.

In order to correctly formulate mathematical models, we need detailed infonnation about the design and construction of steel contairments. Accordingly, we request you to provide the following infonnation about the free-standing, steel containment at Perry Units 7 and 2.

1.

Layout drawings detailing the steel containment shell and plates.

2.

Fabrication drawings for the steel shell and reinforcing members.

3.

Penetration locations, including the details of the attachments and reinforcing.

4.

Material properties test reports for the steel shell and reinforcing l

members.

We request that this infonnation be provided to us by November 28, 1980.
