Dear Sir:
V,,
3 N s.qq s g NRC Letter-Changes tYRESNR-3s In accordance with our commitment at a meeting held on September 30, 1975, we are sending you a listing of the systems in RESAR-3S that we propose to modify.
Two systems will undergo major modifications, i.e., requiring a complete rewrite.
These systems are the ECCS.nd the CVCS.
ECCS The system will be modified along the lines of a dual train concept.
The high pressure injection pumps will be separated from any normal operational function (charging). Automatic changeover to the recirculation mode is provided as well as complete remote redundancy for changeover to hot leg recirculation.
CVCS Some modifications to the ECCS are reflected in this system, i.e., the charging pumps will have no cross connects for ECCS functions.
In addition the boron thermal regeneration features will be deleted and a purification degasi-fier will be included in the letdown stream similar to the Seabrook design.
The above changes will be reflected in other RESAR-3S sections but only to a minimun extent such as nomenclature or very minor word changes.
Other systems such as the sampling and RHR systems will have changes which are few and minor in nature such as fewer sampling points and a change in the RHR pump design which facilitates enintenance.

- ovember 5,1975 All changes are made to improve plant operability and will be clearly identified. All changes will be reviewed by the NSSS vendor and the AE as well as Yankee engineering. None of the changes contemplated will result in a degradation of safety function.
If you have any further questions on the above, please contact us.
Very truly yours, W e'4 Robert P. Shone Nuclear Licensing Manager h
