A response to the following questions / concerns was requested by the NRC during the telephone conversation of 3/25/77.

l.

A concern' was expressed about th'e increased stresses on the

-accumulator, piping and other components due to increasing the operating pressure from 337 psig'to 500 psig.

l Ans. The existing accumulator and the-new expansion tank are designed to Section VIII of the ASME B & PV code. The design pressure of the accumulator is 550 psig @ 100 F and the expansion tank has a design pressure of 720 psig i

@ 100 F.

The accumulator piping was designed to ANSI B31.7 and has a design pressure of 720 psig @ 100 F.

Since the'new operating. conditions are less severe than the design conditions, the stresses induced are lower than code allowables and the factors of safety remain

. greater than those used for the component design.

r 2.

The normal status and mode of operation of MOV-1 was unclear.

Ans. - MOV-1 is normally in the open position and will close automatically.when level switches 3.and 4 close and actuate their respective relays.
