Mr. Roger J. Coe P. A. Morris-2 Suppl.

Vice President E. E. Itall LB reading D. C. Clark LGR reading Gentlemen:

E. Tremmel This refers to your request dated September 14, 1962 for AEC authorization to make Proposed Change No. 29 in your facility pursuant to Section 50.59, 10 CFR, Part 50.

On September 11, 1962 Yankee Atomic Electric Company was authorized, by telegram, to operate their reactor for a period of one month with only eleven of the twenty-two in-core flux wires in an operable condition. "This authorization was designated by the Commission as Change No. 29.

On Septecher 14, 1962 Yankee submitted further information relating to the in-core flux wires and requested authorization to operate their reactor with only one-half of the flux wire thimbles in an operable condition throughout the life of Core II.

Accordingly, we have considered the Yr.hu submittal of September 14, 1962 as a Supplement to Change No. 29.

t Based on our review of the Supplement to Change No. 29, we have found that it does not present significant hazards considerations not described or icplicit in the hazards summary report and that there is reasonable assurance that the health and safety of the public will not be endangered.

A copy of our related hazards analysis is enclosed.

In view of the foregoing, (ankee Atomic Electric Company is hereby

-r authorized to operate their reactor with only one-half of the flux wire l

thimbles in an operable condition throughout the life of Core II in accordance with Yankee's request dated September 14, 1962, designated by the Commission as Supplement to Change No. 29.
