The NRC Region I:SALP Board has reviewed and eva' Sated the per'formance of=ac-
tivities associated with the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station for the
period of July:1, '1988 through September 30,-1989.
The results of this assess-

ment are documented in the SALP Board Report provided as' Enclosure 1. "Briefly,
the assessment found the plant to have been operated and supported in'a manner
that reflected a strong management orientation toward safety. Although weak-
nesses were identified during this assessment period, it appears that correc-
tive action programs are in place or planned to address-deficiencies in these
areas.

We will contact you soon to schedule a meeting to discuss lthe SALP evaluation.
At.the meeting, you should be prepared to discuss our assessments and your
plans to improve performance in each of the functional areas. .The meeting -is

intended to be a. candid dialogue wherein any comments you-may have regarding
