Dear Dr. Piefer:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is reviewing the SHINE Medical Technologies, LLC (SHINE) application for an operating license for a proposed medical isotope production facility in Janesville, Wisconsin. As part of the environmental review, an environmental site audit will be conducted by the NRC staff during the week of February 3, 2020. The environmental audit activities will be conducted in accordance with the enclosed environmental audit plan (Enclosure 1).
To aid in developing the supplement to NUREG-2183, Environmental Impact Statement for the Construction Permit for the SHINE Medical Radioisotope Production Facility, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession Number ML15288A046), the NRC staff requests that the information described in the enclosed environmental audit needs list (Enclosure 2) be made available during the environmental site audit. A draft schedule of tours and meetings for the audit is also provided (Enclosure 3). The NRC staff informally transmitted this information to your staff, Mr. Jeff Barteleme, by e-mails dated December 6, 2019 and December 16, 2019.
